Amarnath - One of the holy trinity, Shiva is a living god. The most sacred and most ancient book of India, the Rig Veda evokes his presence in its hymns, Vedic Myths, rituals and even testifies to his existance from the dawn of time.
Legend has it that Shiva recounted to Parvati the secret of creation in a cave in Amarnath. Unknown to them, a pair of doves eavesdropped on this conversation and having learnt the secret, are reborn again and again, and have made the cave their eternal abode
One of the most popular pilgrimage in Hinduism, devoted to the Lord Shiva. This holy pilgrimage is located in Jammu & Kashmir that is about 5,000 years old accordingly to the Hindu mythology. Inside this Amarnath cave there is Shiva Linga, made of ice which is in his uniform for the whole year. This cave is at the elevation 3,890 m, and approximately 87.6km from Srinagar. The CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), Indian Paramilitary Forces, and Indian Army makes this holy pilgrimage very secure for devotees or pilgrims and maintains the way to this holy pilgrimages to smooth for devotees. Before start this holy pilgrimage prior permission is needed from the Indian Government.
The cave is situated at an altitude of 3,888 m (12,760 ft), about 141 km (88 mi) from Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The Central Reserve Police Force, Indian Army and Indian Paramilitary Forces maintain a strong presence in the region due to concerns of security and hence prior permission is needed from the Government of India before making a pilgrimage.
This cave is the place where God Shiva taught her celestial wife parvati about the furtive of subsistence and life, according to a myth of Hindu. Here you can also see the holy ice that represent to Goddess Parvati and son of lord Shiva”Ganesh”. According to the story that people talk about that this holy cave is exposed by a Shepherd was a Gujjar named Buta Malik. So further in this story is that buta malik meet a saint who gave him a bag having inside it coal, but when he reached his home and open the bag and got surprised. He found that the bag was full of gold coins that have overwhelmed him with happiness. Then he ran to meet that saint and say thanks to him, but when he reached there he found that nobody was there. He told about this to the villagers that he discovery a holy cave having a Shiv Lingam inside it. Then after this place become a holy place for pilgrims.
Another story related to it is narrates by a primeval epics that the valley of Kashmir was under water, that was a big lake. Rishi Kashvap drained the whole water of river through the various rivulets and rivers. After that Rishi Bhrigu reached this place to visit the Great Himalayas. He was the first person who found this holy cave. So when people listen about the Shiv Lingam, Amarnath become the abode of lord Shiva and become a holy pilgrimage center for Hindus. Trek to this holy place, Amarnath in the season of sharavan during the month of July and August. At this time lots of devotee visits this holy pilgrimage. The lingam of Shiva is made of natural Ice Stalagmite whole the year.
Amarnath Yatra - The Amarnath Yatra is organised every year by the J &K Govt. during the month of Shravan ( July and August); the dates however , vary every year looking at the weather conditions and according to Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) in the month of Sharavan (Vikrama Samwat). This year Yatra will be taken up from 08 July, 2024 to 08 August, 2024. Yatra to Baba Amarnath Holy Cave for which one has to trek a height of about 14,500 ft is full of thrill and joy .The feeling of divine which is always beneath ones' heart , burst out and one realises 'Moksha' as one attends the Cave and perform the prayer before the Shivlinga . Surrounded by beautiful valleys, mountains , one will always feel His presence on the paradise of the earth, the memory of which hardly vanishes with time A journey which will rediscover the nature and its love which is always inside but one has never felt.
